415 West 13th Street

The lobby of 415 West 13th street was one of the more complicated projects we have worked on. The ceiling was replaced with panels that were hung at 4 degree angles to each other , and set at angles to an adjoining wall lined with stone. We also fabricated and installed a long section of vertical metal tubes attached to the wall and ceiling. Floor to ceiling cabinetry concealing the fire panel and lobby heater. In case you were wondering, we were assured this is up to NYC code.

The completion of the project was interrupted by the New York COVID lockdown. We were allowed back in small team’s of two, to complete the project. We unfortunately did not have the chance to take photos of the finished product, as COVID kept us all at home. I do intend to return at some point and take photos.

Ceiling Blocking & Installation Progression

June 12th 2020, the first day we were allowed back to work during COVID. As part of the construction trade we were considered essential workers. In hind site, before a vaccine was available, it was not a great idea to be going back to work.

To make the experience even more interesting, looters using the death of George Floyd, had turned downtown NY into a ghost town. The normally busy meat packing district was utterly deserted. Storefronts were boarded up, shops were closed, people were predicting NYC would never recover. Fortunately NY made it through the crisis, and while perhaps not as clean as it once was, is back to full capacity.
