Respect For Our Enviornment With A Focus On Sustainability
We are acutely aware the extent our business relies on natural resources, transforming them into items for homes and cherished products. At 4W, we take the responsibility of reducing our environmental impact seriously. To achieve this, we implement the methods outlined below.
-
Certified Lumber
The main mission of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is to safeguard the world's forests. They achieve this by establishing a system to trace lumber from its planting stage to its sale to the end user. Opting for certified lumber along the FSC path ensures that we are using trees harvested in eco-conscious ways, providing assurance in our commitment to sustainable practices.
-
Domestic Materials
We prioritize domestic lumber and sheet goods as our primary choice. This helps minimize the environmental impact of shipping materials across the globe.
-
Waste Reduction & Carbon Neutrality
In the quest to be environmentally conscious, our shop strives to reduce waste and works towards carbon neutrality. To minimize excess the waste we meticulously plan our material usage. We also recycle and repurpose wood scraps into smaller project, or use as raw material for products we make.
We have partnered with the NYC Parks Department. Each week they pick up our large amount of wood dust and use it for their mulch projects. Apparently the size dust our planer and jointers produce is the gold standard for growing bacteria in the mulch process. To offset our carbon footprint, we buy from renewable energy sources, and work with companies that promote planting trees.
By combining these measures, our shop hopes to make significant strides toward reducing waste and achieving carbon neutrality.
